Another Milestone for our new Curriculum – Consultation on ‘the Legals’.

white paper image for blogOur new curriculum will of course be underpinned by law. A ‘White Paper’ produced by Welsh Government sets out proposals for the legislation required and is open for consultation from 28th January to 22nd March 2019.


The proposals reflect the ambitions and recommendations set out in Successful Futures, aiming to give practitioners freedom to use their professionalism and creativity to meet the needs of learners.

The fast-approaching submission deadlines demand a shorter night’s sleep to make room for lesson preparations, marking and assessing so that another day can be dedicated to the Cause of Creating the New Curriculum. Hearing is believing

Steve DaviesI listened to a radio debate about arts education in England on Radio 4 last month.

The pained discussion about creativity being a key skill in the economy of the future, and young people needing to be adaptable in a rapidly changing jobs market, didn’t reflect well on the English approach.

Now I’m not writing to compound that criticism on our dear neighbour, but the contrast with our own approach couldn’t have been clearer. For me the debate could have been a celebration of where we’re heading with the new curriculum for Wales. Continue reading
