Blog - EAS engagement event

Events and activities across Wales over the next few months will give all interested parties the chance to explore the draft curriculum for Wales 2022 and offer feedback.

Practitioners will have access to briefings organised by their regional consortium where the curriculum will be explained. The programme kicked off with a full week’s events in the South East Wales EAS consortium region that over 800 people attended. See the full programme below. For practitioners who can’t attend there will be a workshop pack for heads to use in their schools. Resources and events aimed at the Non-Maintained Sector are also planned.

As part of the engagement plan Kirsty Williams, Minister for Education, joined teachers for a Q&A session at Cadoxton School last week which was livestreamed via twitter. During the engagement period comment is welcomed via twitter or facebook,  or the more traditional email at CurriculumforWales2022@gov.wales, although formal feedback should be submitted via the draft curriculum pages on Hwb.

But engagement on the draft curriculum needs to be broader than the teaching workforce and education practitioners, so Kirsty Williams is embarking on a roadshow to meet parents, businesses and other stakeholders to get their views. That’s being complemented by a series of events being held with stakeholders in Cardiff and Llandudno.

During the next few weeks we’ll also be publishing an engagement pack for youth workers and anyone working with children and young people, as well as holding a series of focus groups across Wales.

Added to on-line forums and discussions, the hope is that everyone in Wales will have the opportunity to understand the changes, offer thoughts, and begin to share ownership of our new curriculum.

A website giving the full picture of changes underway for education in Wales is here – I’d encourage schools and organisations who want to provide an overview of what’s changing and by when to link to it from their websites.

Meanwhile you can get to know some of the people behind the draft curriculum – videos are available on Hwb.
