Kellie Williams will be addressing the Citizenship strand. Read about her thoughts below on the Digital Competence Framework and why you should attend the NDLE.

History as a practitioner

I have spent ten years of my teaching career as a teacher and Digital Leader at Cornist Park Primary School and I am currently on secondment with GwE as a Regional Digital Leader and Welsh Government as a Digital Pioneer. I am passionate about enhancing teaching and learning by incorporating digital technology across the curriculum. I have been fortunate enough to have my work recognised nationally when I was awarded Teacher of the Year for Wales amongst other awards for my approach to digital learning and digital citizenship.

What are your thoughts on the Framework and benefits to Welsh education system?

It has been great to see how eager most schools are to embrace the Framework since its release in September. Having it as a cross curricular responsibility will help teachers to ensure that they are teaching learners the strategies to become positive online citizens and help them to maximize their use of digital technology both in and out of the classroom. Learners’ digital competence and confidence will be fundamental in preparing them for jobs in the future.

How have you developed projects to address the Digital Competence Framework?

In my role as Regional Digital Advisor I have been involved with supporting many schools in North Wales to help them implement the Framework across the primary curriculum. It has been inspiring to see teachers and support staff participating collaboratively in projects to develop their own digital competence and to enhance their classroom practice.

What will you be demonstrating in the marketplace at the NDLE?

At the NDLE marketplace I will be sharing my school’s journey in strengthening our approach to digital citizenship. I will be demonstrating ideas that are easy to implement and that will enhance digital citizenship amongst the whole school community.

Why do you believe attending the NDLE is beneficial?

Attending the NDLE should be a key event in any teacher’s calendar who has an interest in digital learning. It is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your knowledge, meet like-minded teachers and learn about the exciting changes in Welsh Education. It is guaranteed to leave your brain buzzing with ideas to use in the classroom!
